SPIRIT 2008 Spring Season Recap

SPIRIT showed continued improvement after our winter training sessions.   This spring SPIRIT was promoted to the premier league of NSL and competed very strong.

We started off with a heart breaker loss to NIKO as it ended up a 1-0 game as they scored off an un-assisted goal off a corner kick.   The following game was a victory on a road trip to Columbus. The next two week ends were trips to Des Moines. Spirit played in the Just for Girls Premier Division and went 1-1-1 in the snow and cold. The following weekend another day trip to Des Moines with cross over games with Iowa Premier Teams were we went 1-1. We played back in Omaha for additional cross over games and beat Dakota Gold U-15 and tied a very good Johnston Iowa team. Next we tied Gladiators 0-0 in another competitive match in league play. We ended league play again with very tough games to Fusion and Bellevue losing each game by a goal. The Bellevue game was hard to swallow as they scored in the last 10 seconds to win the match.

SPIRIT ended league play in 5th place with a 1-3-1 league record but allowing only 6 goals in league play. SPIRIT had a 2-1-1 in cross over games and had a combined league record of 3-4-2.

SPIRIT competed in state cup in a very difficult draw and we played both Bravo (Champs) and Fusion (Runner up) in pool play. We played Bellevue as well but lost to them by a goal in a very exciting game that came down to the last minute of the game again.

SPIRIT had a VERY competitive spring season and showed that they can compete with the best teams in Nebraska, South Dakota, and Iowa. Based upon our results we will play again in the Premier Division of NSL for fall 2008.
